At the AIAA Space Conference in San Diego Exhibition Hall QGITS met with SEDS USA Chair Mike Zwach and Deepak Atyam Founder/President of UC San Diego SEDS chapter. Deepak’s team recently participated in and won the DIY Rocket Competition which challenges to print a metal rocket engine from rapid protyping 3D printer. They had some assistance from NASA Marshall Spaceflight Center and this is a perfect example of what SEDS students can accomplish in the pursuit of space exploration and development. Deepak shares his story of how he and his team achieved this goal and what inspired him to follow his passion in the propulsion sector. The UC San Diego SEDS chapter will be testing their rocket engine starting Oct. 5th.

SEDS is the world’s only independent, fully student-run, nonprofit organization for space advocacy. Founded in 1980 by students frustrated with the stagnation of NASA after Apollo, SEDS has inspired tens of thousands of students to pursue careers in science, engineering, and technology. SEDS supports a network of over 30 student chapters across the United States, hosts the largest student-run space conference in the world (SpaceVision), provides students opportunities to develop their leadership skills and professional networks, and inspires others through their involvement in space-related projects.
