PortTechEXPO & Clean Tech – Cool Tech Event

The 4th annual PortTechEXPO held at the Port of LA hosted a free community event for clean technology companies large and small to connect with business prospects at Southern California’s ports and explore opportunities with ports worldwide working to achieve a more sustainable future.

In following PortTechExpo the Clean Tech – Cool Tech event featured technology demonstrations, interactive displays and the latest advancements in smart technology solutions for port communities. At the event technology enthusiasts and aspiring inventors of all ages enjoyed an action-packed afternoon learning about new clean technologies, meeting PortTechLA’s entrepreneurs and finding out about environmental and energy initiatives at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Attendees also had the chance to experience being a rocket scientist with a program by The Aerospace Corporation, maneuver underwater ROVs, check out the latest electric cars, listen to live music by The Chuck Alvarez Band and enjoy eating at various food trucks.

At the PortTechEXPO event winners were announced of the Entrepreneur Pitch Competition. After being chosen from more than 35 companies during the semi-finals, ten entrepreneurs gave eight-minute venture pitch presentations to a panel of judges including investors, business consultants and representatives from both the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach.

Entrepreneur Pitch Competition winners:

ARES (Advanced Rail Energy Storage) North America received the grand prize for a grid-scale energy storage technology that uses electric locomotives and the power of gravity to generate and store green energy. This technology provides a clean, economical and efficient land-based solution to overcome the challenge of storing renewable energy such as wind and solar.

Bright Light Systems received the Best Business Model Award for the company’s energy-efficient, durable plasma lighting technology with wireless capabilities. With 15 new customers, Bright Light Systems is already on a path to success by providing high-quality, high-mast lighting to large-scale facilities such as the Navy, Army and ports.

Egological Mobility received the Best New Technology Award for the world’s most compact electric scooter, which is capable of traveling 20 miles on a single charge, is light enough to carry on the bus and is perfect for the first and last mile of a commute.

PortTech Los Angeles is a business incubator dedicated to developing and promoting businesses with clean technologies that help companies and industries resolve their environmental and regulatory challenges. Primarily, PortTechLA transitions entrepreneurs from running a start-up to overseeing a thriving business by providing several crucial services including management consulting, pitch development, discounted office space and access to funding.
